The West Islip Fire Department was notified of a large brush fire on overlook beach late Sunday night. Upon arrival of NYS Park Police an alleged explosive device was located and the area was secured. The WIFD along with multiple mutual aid departments battled the blaze and remained on scene until the "all clear" was given by the SCPD Bomb Squad and wet down the area to prevent another flare up.
